I'm back in town from the vacation to San Francisco, and will be getting a reasonable update either tonight or tomorrow, along with the pictures from the trip. Sorry the page was out for a little while today, but hosting the High Resolution texture packs for Duke 3D is killing my bandwidth. I'm not sure what I'm going to do about that, but for now I just paid to up my limit temporarily. Thanks to all the guys that have popped into the forums... it helps to have others there while trying to get things off the ground. I'll be catching up on what I missed in there later tonight.

I've also put up some pictures and videos from our first night of Guitar Hero here at 3DR.

What do you get when you mix Guitar Hero for the PS2 with Robosapien V2?

Damn,

I've been waiting like forever for a Guitar Freaks western version. (Guitar Freaks is only avaliable in Japan). Guitar Hero looks really cool, I hope it's in stores in my country soon. I wonder how much practise you actually need to "enjoy" the game.

BTW: Is that George B. with the long hair?? If it's him, damn, DNF surely gave him some gray hair... or is it me?

You guys really know how to enjoy your time

But Stephen looks to me as if he is not enjoying it. It seems he has a lot of work to do and you guys are distracting him by making the party in his office

Thx for sharing this with us Charlie.

Asmodeusz, GB will put on the line everything to get the game done

Funny that this can be defined as 'work'..!
My internet is limited, so i'll have to wait to tomorrow before seeing the video...

The big video file (about 100 Mb) is it funny enough to be worth the download..?!

A few of us were up until like 7am playing. We made it all the way through medium and are starting to work our way through hard. It's cool to watch people get better through practice and you actually do start to feel like you are "learning to play music".

On easy anyone can play. Medium takes a little practice unless you are already decent at rhythm type games. Hard will take practice for anyone (and may be too hard for some people who just "don't have it"). Expert is just plain tough. Doable, but you'll be having to play the songs many times before you pass unless you just get lucky or in a groove.

Stephen was having a great time, Asmodeusz. He's just... Stephen.

Micki!... this was all after work. I wouldn't say the videos are "funny"... it's just us playing around. This game has gotten more people at this company gathered around playing it than anything else in years with the exception of Battlefield 1942.

They are interesting, yeah. Allen Blum is just amusing to watch play... and Kyle actually looks like he's playing a guitar. Kyle is naturally just very good at games like this and he picked this up right away. He'll probably be the one we rely on to beat most of the expert songs.

I've put up compressed versions, so now they are just 7megs and 26 megs instead of the huge sizes they were before.

BTW: The videos are taken with my Canon Powershot SD30. They aren't good for what you'd get with a camcorder of course, but I'm pleased with them for being a normal digital camera and a compact version at that.

Stephen... Well I should probably say something smart but all that comes to mind is:

EVIL TWINS LOL

Although Stephen is more like a long lost good twin.

Kristian... doh! Sorry. Anytime I put stuff up, if I mention it's large I'll be putting up smaller ones later. I'll make sure to mention that specifically though in the future.

We played more last night. It's really cool to actually practice and get better. All the bonus tracks are from local bands and are suprisingly good. Some are more fun to play than the popular songs that make up the main game. I'm about ready to advance permanently from Medium to Hard. Still not ready for Expert though. My pinky finger isn't quite ready for that much work, heh.

I gotta teach the Robosapien to dance to some of the songs, then it'll be a music extravaganza!

Well, I was somewhat lucky because I have downloaded the first video in its uncompressed format and the second one in its compressed format.

Both videos were cool to watch!

Has he maybe considered picking up a real guitar? He looks like he has a lot of talent.

Kyle on the guitar, Wieder on the trumbone and Stephen on the cowbell

Kyle is quite good at music, especially at picking stuff up. He's constantly playing things on his own, figuring out songs he hears by just playing around on a keyboard, etc. He's good with piano/strings so yeah... he's able to know his way around Guitar Hero. He's also just extremely good at "feeling the patterns", which lets him naturally play through stuff that the rest of us need to practice over and over before we understand how our fingers are supposed to move.

Even when I was playing music non-stop I was never one of the guys who automatically could read music almost as well as people who know it can play it. I could sight-read well enough, but some guys just have a knack for it. I spent plenty of time practicing to get good enough to beat everyone else.

We've got several guitar players here... though Guitar Hero can humble even the best guitar players since it does require a different set of skills, despite looking and even feeling pretty similar. Some guys even suggest that some of the songs are easier to play on the real guitar than the Guitar Hero versions (when playing expert of course).

^^ Ahh... I thought so..!
Does he play other instruments than keyboard and guitar..!
Then you could perhaps post a record of him playing..! (just to hear how good he REALLY is..!)

He plays viola and bangs on things sometimes which might be considered drumming. He also sings sometimes. That... unfortunately... is not nearly as enjoyable as his other musical escapades.

We'll see if I can secretly record him at some point.

Haha... trust me... I avoid Kyle at ANY point where he might be naked, so there won't be any shower singing recorded any time soon. If you knew him, you would too.

Well, I think after blasting Charlie´s bathroom door I wouldn´t care about his chest-hair or nipples but about how to get the password for his pc out of him in order to see some DNF stuff

I am reviving this thread for a good reason.
After so much struggle, I finally got to get Guitar Hero I, here in Poland.

Was kinda hard, but man it's SWEEET!

I am rocking the @$#! out right now, and I think this is the very best PS2 game I ever played. Mainly because the feel and music of the game is so very on my "wavelength". I already managed to order GH2. Can anyone say how does it compare to GH1?

I have a show to give so excuse me!
